Ages of Cataria: Dev Diary 01 - Skills Pt. 1
October 18, 2020
Today’s dev blog is all about Villager Skills!
Your town’s villager cards will have skills and skill levels that show what they are proficient at performing. Villagers will be able to upgrade and learn more about a skill by performing the task associated with that skill. The higher the skill level, the more efficient they are at performing the task. Skills may also allow your villagers to have special jobs in your colony.
Some villagers will be unable to perform some tasks, making their skills blank. This could be a certain trait or event that caused your villager to be averse to performing the skill. For example: If they are an Animal Lover, then they will refuse to hunt.
Scholar:
The Scholar trait allows the villager to become a Teacher and increase the skills of other villagers at the village school. This trait also allows the job Alchemist, a role that researches new building upgrades and potions. The Scholar skill is increased by placing your villager as an Alchemist, or Teacher job.
Woodsman:
This skill determines how efficient the villager is at chopping down trees and collecting lumber from logs. The Woodsman skill is increased by working at the Lumber Yard.
Farmer:
Being a Farmer is essential to every successful village and this skill focuses on the citizen’s ability to farm. This can determine how much they yield and what crops they can grow.
Healer:
The healer skills will affect the job of the Herbalist who can heal your villagers from injuries and illnesses. Healer skill is increased by placing your villager to work on a farm.
Builder:
As you can see this is not a skill labeled on the character sheet. This is because everyone in your town is a capable builder, since growing your town is so essential to moving forward in the game. Buildings take hours to days to build depending on how many villagers you have working on constructing them.
Come back in two weeks to read about the rest of the skills!
Everything is very early in development and is subject to change. Please share your feedback and we will take it into consideration.
