Meet the Team: Alex Mccord

What interested you in game development?
Short Story: I like fun. When game no fun, I sad.
Long Story: Growing up I did what many gamers probably did - wait until my parents were asleep and keep gaming. I got in trouble many times doing that and I have no regrets. The older I got the more complex the games I played and eventually I started noticing things I disliked about games. I started to take note of these mentally and eventually, I got tired of yearning for the game I always wanted to play and decided I should just make it.
I got my degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment and I always wanted to use that to tell beautiful stories. Unfortunately, I ended up writing about hair loss and how to clean your gutters. Then Covid hit the world and I lost my contracts. The latter part I saw as a blessing. I had plenty of time to focus on my creative writing and I created a small text-based game. My next project’s vision was much grander and required a team which is a story for another blog post.
What are your favorite video games, and why?
I love Mass Effect for the character connections, Rimworld for the internal story I create, the Witcher 3 for the pure adventure.
What are your favorite non-gaming things to do?
Making games. Oh no, wait, playing board games. Writing this blog I am realizing games are in every corner of my life. To me, games are a great way to connect to new stories or even other people. Movies are up there as well, I hope to make a few movies.
What about Colonies of Cataria are you most excited about?
Creating a community and seeing player feedback. This game is really made with player feedback from nearly the beginning. We can’t please everyone of course, but we aim to take your voice into account. Also, if we reach 600k in funding I’ll shave my hair off.
Beyond TPS, where can we find you?
